PORSCHE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE

Lake Tahoe Tour

New for 2024, the Lake Tahoe Tour bases out of the stunning alpine lake in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, primarily straddling the border of California and Nevada. The lake is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery and sites such as Emerald Bay State Park. The Sierra Nevada region is crisscrossed by scenic byways and roads, providing stunning drive opportunities. The Lake Tahoe Scenic Drive, Highway 89, and the Lake Tahoe Loop are among the more popular routes we plan to explore. This tour also features a stop in Yosemite National Park, famed for its giant, ancient sequoia trees, and for Tunnel View, the iconic vista of towering Bridalveil Falls and the granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome. We expect this to be one of the most beautiful tours we've ever conducted, a diverse range of natural environment and experiences in a stunning natural setting.

  1. Day 1:Arrival and Welcome Reception:

Upon your arrival in Sacramento, you’ll be met by private car service for the short ride from the airport to the Kimpton-Sawyer Hotel, a chic and cosmopolitan hotel at the edge of the Historic Old Sacramento Riverfront District. After settling in, get ready to meet our staff and your fellow travelers at registration and later at our reception and welcome dinner.

  2. Day 2:Lake Tahoe, CA/Stateline, NV

Following a Rules of the Road briefing, an overview of the tour and introduction to our fleet of Carrera models, we’ll start our drive and head east!  Leaving metro Sacramento across the rich agricultural lands that make up the San Juaquin Valley, we’ll vector to the foothills of the Sierras with a stop at Sutters Creek, site of the discovery of California Gold in 1848. We continue our drive along the aptly named Hwy 49 and take a less traveled and very twisty highway (26) through Calaveras County. Among the amazing sights, we follow Carson Pass Highway (88) to the Kirkwood Inn and Saloon for lunch. After lunch we start to climb in elevation and end our first day of driving at the Edgewood Resort in Stateline Nevada.

  3. Day 3:Lake Tahoe, CA/Stateline, NV

Our second day of driving leads us to the western shore of Lake Tahoe. As we approach Incline Village, we turn eastward and take Mount Rose Highway toward the ski resorts before we descend into Washoe Valley, still in Nevada.  We then drive further east toward Virginia City, Nevada, site of huge silver deposits resulting in another precious metal boom in the 1800s. After a planned lunch stop and walk around the historic Main Street, we’ll work our way westward. Our route will follow the less traveled Six Mile Canyon Road and then Hwy 50 through Nevada’s capital, Carson City, and over Connors Pass (7,729 ft elev) and back to the Edgewood Resort on Lake Tahoe.

  4. Day 4: Lake Tahoe, CA/Stateline, NV

Our third driving day will explore the roads and wonders around Lake Tahoe. Planned drives include a lap around the lake and a stop at the aptly named Emerald Bay, famous for its deep green color. We continue up the western side of the lake to Olympic Village, site of the 1960 Winter Olympics. We’ll ascend the Palisade Tahoe Aerial Tram to absorb even more of the vista. Later, we head north to the famed Donner Pass and Visitor Center. Our next segment will be to turn southward to Incline Village and subsequently along the east shore of Lake Tahoe before returning to the Edgewood Resort.

  5. Day 5:Yosemite Valley, CA

Our fourth and longest driving day has us descending the Kingsbury Grade as we take less traveled roads along the very scenic Carson River. After a brief stop at a campsite on the river we’ll proceed across the state line back into California and a lunch stop at the historic Bridgeport Inn. After lunch we’ll find the western entrance to Yosemite National Park along the incredibly scenic Tioga Pass and incorporate a well-deserved rest stop at the Tuolumne Meadow Visitor Center. Then onward to our final destination, the historic Ahwahnee Resort in Yosemite Valley.

  6. Day 6:Sacramento, CA

Our fifth drive day has us heading northward out of Yosemite Park along Big Oak Flat Road along beautiful mountain lakes and streams, eventually stopping in Sonora California for lunch. Afterwards, we’ll continue north to the very beautiful Golden Chain Highway (49), revisit Sutters Creek and then a westward turn to the Kimpton-Sawyer Hotel in Sacramento.  The day’s activities conclude with celebratory finale dinner.

  7. Day 7:Program Concludes: Shuttles to Sacramento International Airport (Depart from SAC)

We’ll be sorry to see our time in the Sierra Nevadas come to an end. You will have captured new memories, made new friends, and likely developed a whole new appreciation of this part of the country.
